FEATURED ARTICLE:
"Cutting It Straight"
In 2 Timothy 2:15, the Apostle Paul expressed to Timothy the need for him to become one who is approved of God. One who is approved of God, "correctly handles the word of truth" (NIV). In the original language that phrase literally means, to cut it straight. It describes a craftsman cutting a straight line, a mason setting a straight line of bricks or a workmen building a straight road. Metaphorically, it is used to describe carefully performing a task. As a tent maker, the Apostle Paul did a lot of cutting. He recognized that, in order to make a functional tent, every piece had to be cut properly and fit together precisely.
As those who are seeking to be approved of God, we need to make sure that when it comes to the Scriptures, we cut it straight. We need to properly interpret the different parts. When we approach God's word with this degree of care, preciseness and accuracy, we ensure that the whole intended message comes through correctly.
